Buddhist Story: Dividing the Inheritance Equally

As a wealthy man was dying, he repeatedly advised his two sons, "After I pass away, you must love each other and not let disputes over the inheritance strain your relationship. Otherwise, I won't rest in peace."

Soon after, the wealthy man died. Ignoring their father's dying words, the two sons argued fiercely over dividing the property, neither willing to back down.

At this point, an elderly neighbor said, "I'll teach you a method that's absolutely fair and ensures no one loses out. Simply cut everything in half and divide it equally. For instance, cut the clothes into two halves, split the bottles in two, tear the money in half. This way, you each get half, and neither can gain an advantage. Isn't this method great?" Upon hearing this, the two sons of the wealthy man were left in a state of helpless laughter and tears.

Words of Wisdom: The elder's suggestion to divide all possessions into halves is clearly a joke. Similarly, when working with others, is it not equally foolish to be overly concerned with whether the workload is fairly and equally distributed?
