The Life of the Buddha 08

The young prince was handsome and impressive, attracting the pursuit of many noble maidens and princesses of the royal family. There were continuous luxurious banquets, wild songs and dances. However, these only added to the prince's melancholy and disgust.

King Suddhodana tried to change the prince's gloomy temperament with treasures and women, and built palaces suitable for the four seasons. But still, he couldn't please the prince.

The prince, having perceived the huge social class gap in India, recalled the unequal and cruel scenes he witnessed during his inspection of the countryside. His sorrow could never be dispelled, which greatly distressed King Suddhodana.
