Princess Yaśodharā furiously rebuked Channa, "You have robbed me of the joy of half my life. You are deeply guilty!" Then she stroked the horse and lamented, "Kanthaka, you were once loyal and brave on the battlefield. Why did you silently allow him to leave tonight?" Channa prostrated himself and pleaded his case, "That night, the city gates opened by themselves, and the white horse galloped as if flying in the air. It must have been the guidance of the gods!" The princess gazed blankly into the void and said, "If a companion is needed on the path of cultivation, why did he leave me alone in loneliness? What sin has our young child committed that he should be deprived of his father's love?" She was like a lotus flower battered by wind and rain, having lost all her former beauty and grace.
