Buddhist Story: The Parrot and the Fire. A parrot flew to another forest, got along well with the animals there and was well cared for. Later, missing its hometown, it left. Months later, a big fire raged in that forest. The passing parrot saw it, wet its feathers in water, then flew over the fire to drip water, repeating this several times. A god asked why it was so silly as a big fire couldn't be put out by its few drops. The parrot said it knew it was in vain but couldn't stand by as the animals were like brothers. Touched by its sincerity, the god put out the fire with rain. Words of Wisdom: The parrot's spirit of helping others regardless of its own life is worthy of our learning.
