Buddhist Story: Lose the greater for the less. There was a miserly merchant who lent a fisherman five yuan. Two weeks passed, yet the fisherman did not come to repay the loan. Assuming the fisherman had forgotten, the merchant decided to visit him in person. The fisherman resided on the other side of a wide river, and reluctantly, the merchant spent five yuan to hire a boat to cross over. Finding no one at the fisherman's house, he had no choice but to spend another five yuan to hire a boat back. The next day, still undaunted, he spent another five yuan to cross the river once more, only to discover that the fisherman was not there again, forcing him to hire a boat back once more. This cycle repeated itself seven times, until finally, he managed to catch the fisherman and retrieve his five yuan. With a joyful heart, he exclaimed, "Finally, I've gotten my five yuan back!" Words of Wisdom: Often, people lose sight of the greater good in pursuit of insignificant gains, unaware of the harm they inflict upon their fundamental virtues and kind hearts in the quest for trivial fame or wealth.
