The Life of the Buddha 17
The prince and Yodhāyī talked at length until dusk, and the palace maids returned without achieving their goal. The prince wandered alone in the garden, lost in thought, and then returned to the palace. Yodhāyī reported the situation to King Suddhodana truthfully. Upon learning that the prince was determined to stay away from the five desires and had recognized the impermanence of the world, the king was filled with sorrow and grief. He summoned an emergency meeting of the ministers to discuss how to change the prince's world - weary mindset. The ministers unanimously believed that only by increasing the pleasures of the five desires could the prince's heart be changed.
