Buddhist Story: The Wisdom of Water. Poli, a merchant, encountered the Sea God on the ocean. The Sea God, holding a handful of fresh water, asked Poli, "Do you think there is more water in the sea or in this handful of fresh water?" Poli replied, "I believe this handful of fresh water holds more value. For though the sea may be vast and expansive, it is not potable and cannot quench the thirst of the starving and desperate. This small amount of fresh water, despite its scarcity, can save the lives of those in need." Thus, it is said: Just as a humble handful of fresh water, seemingly insignificant, can save one's life amidst the vastness of the ocean, so too, simple words of wisdom, unassuming in nature, can empower individuals to overcome adversity during their most trying times.
