Buddhist Story: A Spark Ignites a Prairie Fire.
Nāgasena the monk said, "Someone lit a candle to eat by at night, but unexpectedly it caused a fire that spread into the forest. Everyone accused this person, saying, 'Why did you do this?' But the person replied, 'I only lit a small candle to illuminate while eating. The fire grew on its own; what does it have to do with me?' An argument broke out, and they asked the king to decide."
Nāgasena asked King Guowang, "How should this be handled?"
The king said, "It's the fault of the person who lit the candle."
Nāgasena asked, "Why?"
The king said, "The big fire came from a small one. If the person who lit the candle had extinguished it after eating, how could there have been a fire disaster?"
Words of Wisdom: A small spark can ignite a great fire; a small evil thought often leads to grave mistakes. A responsible and compassionate person should bravely face reality, acknowledge their own errors, and sincerely repent.
