The Life of the Buddha 10 Siddhartha and Princess Yasodhara gave birth to a grandson, Rahula, in the royal palace. King Suddhodana was overjoyed and hoped that the prince would abandon his idea of renouncing the world for the love of his son. Most kings in the world feared that their princes would indulge in debauchery. On the contrary, King Suddhodana hoped that the prince would fully enjoy the pleasures of the world. He even intended to abdicate in favor of the prince and go to the mountains to practice asceticism himself. He paid extraordinary attention to and cared deeply about everything related to the prince.
